Google’s Broad Core Algorithm Update

Google has confired that there is a Broad Core Algorithm update that happened in early August.  According to Google there is “nothing to fix” on your site and that it just favors sites with better practices.

Here are some insights that may help you:

  • It appears that it is not about site speed or security.
  • There was very large SERP (search engine result pages) volatility. Big changes in ranking for many pages.
  • It seems to favor, in mobile search, where text is above products in product pages. However, in the longer run, click through rates may readjust this.
  • Try not to have too much redundant fluff in the top fold of the page.
  • It appears that product category pages were negatively effected but that individual product pages were positively effected.
  • In mobile, short answers or listed text seem to be favored, but again, text on top seems to win. That said, if text on the top is going to affect your user experience in a negative way, then the boost may be short lived.

Its a little early to know completely but these observations may help you.
